“How many people are playing” and “how many can join my world” are different questions. The first is a Steam snapshot. The second is a platform cap.

Snapshot, not a live counter

At 15:23 UTC on 16 October 2026, Steam’s current-player API returned 58,535. This excludes PS5 and is a dated observation, not a live counter. SteamCharts separately listed a 24-hour peak of 64,637 and an all-time peak of 160,361 when checked that day. Different services and polling times need not match. These population figures are separate from the number allowed in one co-op session.

Questions

Why can SteamCharts and the Steam API differ?

They may sample at different times or refresh at different intervals. Both Steam figures exclude PS5; neither is a co-op session limit.

Can 16 people join on PS5?

No. The PS5 page says 8 online players with PS Plus.
