How to set it up
Place Magic Chests close to the workshops and confirm that the crafting menu sees their contents. The wiki’s Storage page still quotes approximately 100 meters but explicitly flags changed ranges as needing tests; this guide has not measured a replacement radius. Keen’s 1.0 notes confirm in-place chest upgrades, naming, conversion to Magic Chests, and earlier access to the Quick Stash Station with a guiding quest. The same changelog fixes terrain undo with a full backpack, while noting that resources cannot be returned to an already full bag.
Questions
Why can’t I craft from the box?
It is probably a normal chest, or the bench is outside the Magic Chest radius.
Did 1.0 change chests?
Yes. In-place upgrade, names, conversion to Magic Chest, and an earlier Quick Stash Station.
