The official 1.0 changelog gives the local Windows save path as %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\keen games\Enshrouded\default. Steam Cloud and dedicated-server saves use separate locations. Back up before changing files.

The 16 October 2026 hotfix 1.0.0.2 avoids a migration crash by skipping corrupted characters. Keen says a repair-and-migration fix is still in progress. A missing character is not proof that its files should be deleted; keep the original backup and contact official support.

The 1.0 character and world selection screens have separate tabs for local saves and Steam Cloud saves. If a character or world appears missing, check the selected tab first. Steam Cloud files can be downloaded from Steam’s remote-storage page for app 1203620; the local synchronized copy is under your Steam installation’s userdata/<SteamUserID>/1203620/remote directory.

A dedicated server uses saveDirectory in enshrouded_server.json, defaulting to ./savegame relative to the server installation. World save files, not necessarily folders, use fixed hexadecimal names: the first world is 3ad85aea. Keen documents ten numbered rolling copies per world, with a new copy every ten minutes or at shutdown. The accompanying -index file selects the active copy through its latest value, 0–9. Close the world/server and copy all save files before any rollback.

The older Save Game Management article still gives %USERPROFILE%/Saved Games/enshrouded for pre-1.0 local saves. For the current local path, the newer 1.0 changelog takes precedence. Do not delete the older directory merely because the path changed.

Questions

Will Steam Cloud replace a bad local file?

It can, in either direction. Pause Cloud before you restore an older local copy, or the newer cloud file may return.

Does a PS5 save live in that folder?

No. Console saves stay on the console account. The path above is the Windows client.
